Ukrainian, Slovak FMs address key issues of bilateral cooperation

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiha met with his Slovak counterpart Juraj Blanar on Monday, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has said.

The talks took place as part of the second round of joint consultations between the governments of Ukraine and the Slovak Republic chaired by the prime ministers, Denys Shmyhal and Robert Fico.

"The parties discussed key issues on the Ukrainian-Slovak agenda, in particular, further support for Ukraine in the context of Russian armed aggression, Slovakia's participation in the implementation of the Peace Formula and preparations for the Second Global Peace Summit," the ministry said.

Sybiha emphasized that the Peace Formula is currently the only and uncontested way to restore a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine in line with the UN Charter.

He added that the Ukrainian side hopes for Slovakia to join the G7 Declaration on Support for Ukraine and the conclusion of a corresponding bilateral security agreement. He also suggested that Slovakia take patronage over one of the regions of Ukraine in the context of the resumption and development of trade and investment.

The ministers paid special attention to the issues of assistance to humanitarian demining in the context of the implementation of item 8 of the Peace Formula "Environmental Security" and Slovakia's participation in themed conferences and coalitions.

Sybiha informed about the current security situation and the needs to strengthen Ukraine's resilience ahead of the winter, asked the Slovak side for support in the rehabilitation of wounded Ukrainian soldiers, and received assurances of readiness to provide such assistance.

In addition, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry informed his Slovak counterpart about the steps taken towards European integration and thanked him for Slovakia's unconditional support for Ukraine's future membership in the European Union. He also expressed hope for the Slovak side's support for Ukraine's further movement towards joining NATO.

Sybiha also noted Ukrainian-Slovak cooperation within international organizations and Slovakia's co-authorship of key UN resolutions initiated with Ukraine's support.

The ministers exchanged views on interaction with third countries in the context of preparations for planned international events.
