Newly appointed German Ambassador Heiko Thoms starts his diplomatic mission in Ukraine
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevhen Perebyinis received copies of the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine Heiko Thoms.
According to the Foreign Ministry's press service, the Deputy Minister congratulated the head of the German mission on the start of his diplomatic mission in our country and praised the current level of political dialogue between Ukraine and Germany, noting Germany's European leadership in the level of comprehensive assistance it provides to Ukraine, particularly in the defense sector, to counter Russian aggression.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the two countries' cooperation on issues of Ukraine's European and Euro-Atlantic integration, the critical needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, and the consequences of Russia's daily missile and drone attacks. They also noted the need to decisively increase international pressure on the aggressor state to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
Ambassador Thoms assured Germany of its continued support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and emphasized Germany's readiness to further strengthen its military, economic, and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.
German media previously reported that former State Secretary for Finance and seasoned diplomat Heiko Thoms would become Germany's ambassador to Ukraine. The previous German ambassador to Ukraine, Martin Jäger, has assumed the position of President of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND).
