Ukrnafta uses wireless system for 3D seismic surveys in mountains

PJSC Ukrnafta has completed the field phase of its first 3D seismic surveys using a wireless data acquisition system in the mountainous terrain of western Ukraine.

"The next step is data interpretation and building a digital geological model," the company stated in a press release on Friday.

According to Ukrnafta, the high reliability of the geological models will help minimize risks in exploration drilling, allowing for more efficient drilling of new wells.

"In global seismic field studies, working in mountainous areas is considered the most challenging due to elevation differences and the complex geological structure of deposits. The main goal is to obtain seismic data with high density and resolution," said Ukrnafta Director Serhiy Koretsky, as quoted in the press release.

The field phase covered an area of 77 square kilometers at altitudes ranging from 350 to 600 meters. The winner of the ProZorro tender, Georozvidka LLC, carried out the work.

The maximum number of wireless autonomous modules used during the field research reached nearly 20,000, with data being registered on 18,500 units simultaneously.

The high density of receivers – 257 units per square kilometer – allowed for clear tracking of reflections from steeply inclined seismic-geological boundaries.

Ukrnafta is Ukraine's largest oil extraction company and operates a national network of filling stations. In March 2024, the company took over the management of Glusco assets, and now operates 545 filling stations – 460 of its own and 85 under management.

The company is implementing a comprehensive program to renew operations and modernize the format of its filling stations. Since February 2023, Ukrnafta has been offering its own fuel vouchers and NAFTA Cards, which are sold to both legal entities and individuals through Ukrnafta-Postach LLC.

The largest shareholder in Ukrnafta is Naftogaz Ukrainy, which holds a 50% plus one share. In November 2022, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine decided to transfer the corporate rights of the company, previously owned by private shareholders, to the state. The Ministry of Defense now oversees these shares.
