Ukrzaliznytsia proposes to increase freight tariffs by 37%
The Supervisory Board of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia has approved the board's proposal to index freight tariffs, which must be approved by the Tariff Council under the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development in order to come into force, the company's press service reported.
"Rail freight rates have not been indexed for almost two years - since the summer of 2022, and the previous indexation did not bring rates to an economically justified level. During this time, the index of industrial producers' prices has already amounted to 176.4%. At the same time, railway workers proposed to limit the indexation of rates to a significantly more moderate figure: only 37% or about 13% in annual terms, given that 2.5 years have passed since the last indexation," the press service said in a statement.
It is indicated that the proposals to increase rates were approved by the Ukrzaliznytsia board on December 5, 2024.
