Ukrainian Navy: Second Ukrainian corvette launched in Turkey 'contains many surprises'
The Ukrainian corvette "Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky" launched in Turkey, contains many surprises, Spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy Dmytro Pletenchuk said.
"The second corvette for the Ukrainian Navy of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was launched as planned. This is the good news that I wrote about the day before yesterday. In fact, this ship contains many surprises and I feel that dozens of my next broadcasts will be about this," he said on his Facebook page.
The spokesman also said the Ukrainian ship differs from the serial project, which is in service with the Turkish fleet, in that the number of weapons systems increased by 50%, which were added taking into account the modern realities of war at sea.
As reported by the Qırım Haber Ajansı agency, the CEO of the Turkish shipbuilding company STM, Özgür Güleryüz, noted at the ceremony on the occasion of the launch of the corvette that the construction of the ship within the framework of the project began in 2022, and the vessel will make its maiden voyage in 2026.
"The second ship will be transferred to the Ukrainian Navy in the first quarter of 2027," Güleryüz said.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said the launch of the second Ada-class corvette is of great importance for Ukraine and stated that "this is not just a new ship, it is a symbol of the revival of our navy, our national pride and strength."
As reported, on July 1, a ceremony was held in Istanbul to launch the second military ship built jointly by Turkey and Ukraine for the Ukrainian Navy.
