Russia doesn’t request Red Cross to open humanitarian corridor for residents of Kursk region – Vereschuk
Russia has not requested the International Committee of the Red Cross to open a humanitarian corridor for residents of Kursk region, says Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for the Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Iryna Vereschuk.
"The General Staff, they were the ones who created the military commandant's office, in the presence of the International Committee of the Red Cross reported that Russia, as a state, did not apply for the opening of a humanitarian corridor [for residents of Kursk region]," Vereschuk told reporters in Kyiv on Thursday.
She noted that according to the norms, Ukraine is obliged to announce the possibility of opening such a corridor, but the Russian Federation, if it is worried about its population, is obliged to request such a corridor through the ICRC, which has the appropriate mandate.
"Russia has actually abandoned these people and is not dealing with them," the Deputy Prime Minister stressed.
At the same time, she noted that the Ukrainian military provide all necessary assistance for the life support of these territories.
In addition, Tereschuk said that Russians are contacting the Ukrainian hotline, and the Ministry of Reintegration redirects all appeals to the military commandant's office.
