Ukrnafta withdraws UAH 5 mln from Okhmatdyt – Healthy Childhood Charitable Foundation pending transparent use of funds

PJSC Ukrnafta withdrew UAH 5 million transferred by the company from the Okhmatdyt – Healthy Childhood Charitable Foundation pending the determination of a transparent procedure for using the funds, its head Yevhen Vember reported on Facebook.

"The letter states that funds intended for specific purposes cannot be transferred to the hospital's treasury account without any designated purpose. Of course, we returned the funds to Ukrnafta. I am adding the relevant bank statement to this publication," he wrote.

In turn, Ukrnafta, in a comment to Vember's post, emphasized that the company fully supports the need to restore the medical institution that saves children's lives. At the same time, it is critically important that all processes for its restoration are absolutely transparent, and control over the use of funds is as strict as possible.

"The company is guaranteed to re-transfer funds for the restoration of the hospital after a final legal decision is made regarding the entity managing the funds, in accordance with the legislation of Ukraine," Ukrnafta emphasized.

As reported, as a result of a tender held by the Charitable Foundation at the end of July for the repair of the hospital building destroyed by the Russian missile strike on July 8, the company Bud-Technology was selected for UAH 307 million. Due to public outcry regarding the price and transparency, the results of the tender were cancelled.

On August 16, the General Director of Okhmatdyt Volodymyr Zhovnir stated that the Charitable Foundation, which had collected money for the restoration, refused to transfer it to the hospital accounts. For its part, the Foundation assured the public that all funds collected for the restoration of the hospital would remain in its accounts, and insisted on providing legal grounds for transferring funds to treasury accounts without an appointment.

On August 17, Zhovnir was suspended from his duties pending the completion of checks by the National Police of Ukraine, other law enforcement agencies and the Ministry of Health commission into the facts related to the restoration of the buildings of Okhmatdyt.

Health Minister Viktor Liashko reported that the hospital director proposed collecting funds to the charity fund account after the attack on Okhmatdyt, citing successful experience of cooperation.

According to the Ministry of Health, the amount of funds collected for the restoration of Okhmatdyt exceeded UAH 1.6 billion, including UAH 400 million in equipment. In particular, UAH 312 million was transferred directly to the account of the National Children's Specialized Hospital Okhmatdyt, and UAH 379 million to the account of the said fund.

Ukrnafta is the largest oil producing company in Ukraine and is the operator of the national network of gas stations. In March 2024, the company took over the management of Glusco assets and operates a total of 545 filling stations – 460 of its own and 85 under management.
