Norway to allocate over EUR 48 mln for UAVs, air defense systems for Ukraine
The Norwegian government has allocated funds for the purchase of drones and air defense systems for Ukraine as part of a joint project between the UK, the Netherlands, Lithuania and Norway.
"Norway contributed NOK 570 million [EUR 48.2 million] to this donation. The acquisition is made through the British-led International Fund for Ukraine," the press service of the Norwegian government reports.
It is noted that the purpose of the fund, led by Great Britain, is to provide Ukraine with military materials through purchases from industry. Norway has previously contributed a total of NOK 1.8 billion to the fund since 2022. Together with Great Britain, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Lithuania, Australia, New Zealand and Iceland, a total of more than NOK 12.5 billion has been allocated.
"Ukraine has an urgent need for more military equipment to protect itself against the Russian war of aggression. Together with other countries, Norway will do what we can to contribute," says Minister of Defense Bjørn Arild Gram.
Norway has previously contributed to the procurement of, among other things, air defense systems, mine clearance equipment, artillery ammunition, transport vehicles, engineering vehicles, asphalt pavers, spare parts and equipment for servicing Ukrainian platforms and small boats.
The support is financed through the Nansen program.
