Syrsky: Results of F-16 crash investigation to be known to everyone soon
The results of the investigation by the special commission of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine into the crash of the F-16 fighter jet will be known to everyone soon, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky said in an interview with CNN.
"I think the results of the investigation will be known to everyone shortly. And on the one hand, we are not going to hide it, but on the other hand, the effectiveness of the use of these aircraft has been proven by the results," Syrsky said.
Syrsky emphasized that the best pilots who already had experience in the effective use of aircraft in service with the Ukrainian armed forces were selected to train in the control of American F-16 fighters. "Of course, they came highly trained, as our partners also confirmed, and received all the approvals to operate these aircraft," Syrsky said.
Answering the question about what caused the F-16 crash in Ukraine on August 26, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the investigation was being conducted by a special commission of the Ministry of Defense and he would not comment on anything until the investigation is completed.
Syrsky also said that the pilot who died shot down two enemy missiles using onboard weapons and managed to attack a third cruise missile. "Now a special commission of the Ministry of Defense is conducting an investigation to find out all the facts of the catastrophe, the crash of this aircraft," Syrsky said.
Syrsky noted that the effectiveness of using the F-16 has been proven in practice – "the destruction of four cruise missiles by a pair of F-16s, so this will certainly strengthen our defense capabilities, first of all in the fight against enemy cruise missiles."
