Ukraine to receive $415 mln from World Bank for accessible and sustainable education
Ukraine's Education and Science Ministry, Finance Ministry of Finance and the World Bank have signed a series of agreements on a program to improve the accessibility and sustainability of education in crisis conditions in Ukraine, which provides for the financing of $415 million over three years.
"The LEARN program will receive funding through a new instrument for Ukraine, the Results-Based Lending Program. For its implementation, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development will provide a $235 million loan and the International Development Association will provide a $150 million loan. The investment part of the program will be financed by a grant of the Multi-Donor Trust Fund for Ukraine Relief, Recovery, Reconstruction and Reform in the amount of $30 million," the Education and Science Ministry said on Wednesday.
The financing of the Results-Based Lending Program will be transferred to the general fund of the state budget upon achievement of certain results of the use of subventions and budget programs of the Education and Science Ministry.
The funds will be used to improve conditions for learning and teaching, in particular, to build and modernize bomb shelters, purchase safe and inclusive buses for pupils' transportation, provide textbooks and professional development of teachers and school managers according to the New Ukrainian School standards.
