UN ready for humanitarian mission in Kursk region, but waiting for Russia's permission

The United Nations (UN) is ready to join humanitarian aid to civilians in the part of Kursk region controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, subject to the corresponding permission from Russia, UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said.

As reported by the Voice of America, Dujarric made this statement commenting on the invitation of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry for representatives of the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to the territory of Kursk region controlled by Ukraine for "humanitarian response measures."

According to Dujarric, UN representatives are ready to arrive in Kursk region. But to do this, the organization needs permission from Russia. The ICRC has not yet responded to Ukraine's invitation.

Earlier it was reported that on September 16, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry appealed to the UN and the ICRC to join the humanitarian response in the areas of Kursk region that are under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

According to Russian media, Dmitry Peskov called Ukraine's invitation to representatives of the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross to visit the territories of Kursk region of Russia, which are currently controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, a provocation.

The Ukrainian army entered the territory of Kursk region of Russia on August 6. The Ukrainian Armed Forces claim control over dozens of settlements.
