Ukraine, Slovakia sign Implementation Protocol of Ukraine-EU Agreement on persons’ readmission – Klymenko
During intergovernmental consultations between Ukraine and Slovakia, Ministers of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko and Matúš Šutaj Eštok signed the Implementation Protocol on the implementation of the Agreement between Ukraine and the EU on the readmission of persons, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported.
"Our priority in this process will certainly remain compliance with current international obligations. The protocol defines which bodies will be responsible for readmission in Ukraine and Slovakia, through which checkpoints this will take place, and also describes how to submit the relevant requests. I am grateful to our partners for their assistance in strengthening the security of our borders," Klymenko was quoted as saying in a message posted on the Telegram channel on Monday.
The signing of the protocol is reportedly a continuation of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in this area, which began with the signing of the readmission agreement in Luxembourg in 2007.
"Establishing a permanent exchange of information between the competent authorities of both countries is a key element in the fight against illegal migration," the message reads.
