France open to idea of inviting Ukraine to NATO, issue discussed with partners - French FM
Paris is open to the idea of inviting Ukraine to join NATO, discussions on this issue with the Alliance's allies and the Ukrainian side are ongoing, said newly appointed French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, who arrived in Kyiv,
"As for the invitation to join NATO, the President of the Republic spoke about this last week during President Zelenskyy's visit to Paris. We are open to this, and this is an issue that we are discussing today with our NATO partners, and, of course, our Ukrainian partners are participating in this conversation," he said at a press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha in Kyiv.
Barrot stressed that France supports and will continue to support Ukraine in financial, humanitarian, civil aspects, as well as in military and European contexts."
"We have tried at every stage to provide Ukraine with all the necessary support so that it can resist the aggressor and prepare for the moment when a decision is made, under the conditions that Ukraine will determine, to begin peace negotiations," he said.
