Zelenskyy on NATO invitation: there’s consensus of majority of Alliance countries, reserved position of several countries

Today, Ukraine sees a consensus among the majority of the North Atlantic Alliance countries regarding the situation with its invitation to NATO, while at the same time there is a reserved position of several countries, and work will be carried out on this, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"Today we see confidence in France, support from France. We understand that the British will support us and we believe that the Italians will support us. Regarding Germany's reaction, in our opinion, in general, today the situation largely depends on the United States. We believe that they are consolidating their opinions regarding NATO and this also has an impact on, for example, Hungary and Slovakia," the president said at a meeting with journalists on Monday.

At the same time, he noted that Ukraine hopes for a more positive reaction from the United States after the elections.

Not because of the change of president, but simply because the focus, the attention of the United States is now on the elections, and I believe that in any case, any harsh statements from the United States today are probably inappropriate or have challenges. I believe they do not want unnecessary risks," Zelenskyy explained.

Regarding Germany's position on inviting Ukraine to NATO, the head of state believes that "we will all have to work hard with the German side." "But the United States will still have influence on this," the president added.
