Russia deploys first units of North Korean soldiers to combat zone

The first units of the DPRK military, trained at eastern Russian training grounds, have already arrived in the combat zone of the Russia-Ukraine war - in particular, on October 23, 2024, their appearance was recorded in Kursk region of Russia, the Main Intelligence Agency (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reports.

"The training of the DPRK army soldiers, who arrived in Russia, is taking place at five military training grounds located in the east of the aggressor state - Baranovsky (Ussuriysk), Donguz (Ulan-Ude), Ekaterinoslavsky (Ekaterinslavka), 248th (Knyaze-Volkonskoye) and 249th (Sergeevka). Several weeks are allocated for the approval of the military from North Korea, which Russia intends to use in the war against Ukraine," the message posted on the Telegram channel states.

According to estimates by the Main Intelligence Agency of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the number of North Korean military personnel transferred to the Russian Federation currently amounts to about 12,000 people, including 500 officers, and three Pyongyang generals.

"Moscow has appointed Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia Yunus-Bek Yevkurov responsible for monitoring the military training and adaptation of the DPRK troops. The soldiers sent by Pyongyang are supplied with ammunition, bedding, winter clothing and footwear, as well as hygiene products. In particular, Moscow will allocate 50 meters of toilet paper and 300 grams of soap monthly to each North Korean, in accordance with established standards," the GUR notes.
