Ukraine keeps close contact with Trump team, more contacts to be in near future
Holding a telephone conversation between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump on the day of his victory in the U.S. presidential election proves that both sides value the strategic partnership between the countries.
"Presidents Zelenskyy and Trump had a great phone conversation last night. The fact that they talked on the very first day after President Trump's election victory speaks for itself. This proves that both sides value the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States," Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhiy Tykhyi said at a briefing in Kyiv on Thursday.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stressed that President Zelenskyy and Trump have a long-standing, constructive and result-oriented dialogue.
"They had been in touch before the elections, and they will keep in touch in the coming weeks and months," the speaker said.
He also stressed that Ukraine appreciates the bipartisan support in the United States.
"We are in close contact with the Trump team and with people from his entourage, with the transition team and, basically, with both parties. We also have good contacts with the Republican Party," Tykhyi said.
The spokesperson recalled that Zelenskyy and Trump had contacts immediately before the election, as well as immediately after the election.
«И в ближайшие недели и месяцы будет больше контактов. Так что я думаю, что более детальные вопросы будут обсуждаться после», - отметил Тихий.
"And there will be more contacts in the coming weeks and months. So, I think that more detailed issues will be discussed later," said Tykhyi.
Separately, he recalled that Zelenskyy and Trump held, as indicated in the Foreign Ministry, a "very good, detailed and thorough" meeting in New York, when the president of Ukraine presented a Victory Plan.
