Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiha discussed with his Japanese counterpart Iwaya Takeshi the next steps to further liberalize the visa regime.

“We also discussed, and will continue to discuss, possible next steps to further liberalize the visa regime,” Sybiha said at a press conference with his Japanese counterpart Iwaya Takeshi in Kyiv on Saturday.

Sybiha also noted the support for the participation of Japan and Japanese business in the reconstruction of Ukraine.

“The conference on the restoration of Ukraine in Tokyo in February was important in this regard. We agreed to move according to the outlined roadmap of cooperation,” he said.

The ministers also agreed to increase sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation.

In total, Japan has imposed 26 packages of sanctions against individuals and legal entities of the Russian Federation and Belarus.

As Sybiha stressed, the visit of Takeshi's father to Ukraine, who has recently assumed the post of Japanese Foreign Minister, is an important sign of solidarity and a political signal.

“Although there are 8,0000 kilometres between us, our countries are close in values,” he added.
