Czech Republic to continue supplying ammunition to Ukraine in 2025
The Czech Republic is going to continue supplying ammunition to Ukraine in 2025, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský said.
"Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, the Prime Minister of Denmark and the Prime Minister of the Netherlands have already agreed to continue supplies in 2025. After all, it is obvious that Ukraine will need ammunition next year as well. Therefore, we must continue," he said in an interview with European Pravda.
Lipavský said the promise made this year to purchase and transfer half a million large-caliber ammunition to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in the event of sufficient international support, will be fulfilled in full by the end of the year. "I can guarantee that we will provide this by the end of this year. I cannot say exactly how many shells we have already transferred and how many are left, but colleagues responsible for this scheme say that we will achieve this figure," he said.
According to the minister, ammunition is purchased from warehouses around the world.
"Considering the fact that defense production in the EU has not yet accelerated, we have found stockpiles of shells around the world and are buying them. We restore some of the shells so that they are in working order. And then we send them to Ukraine," Lipavský said.
He said a sufficient number of manufactured ammunition that can be purchased for the Armed Forces of Ukraine for 2025 has already been found, but for long-term continuation of deliveries, countries need to increase their own production. "Then we will need to increase production. Ukraine is doing this now, but many other countries should do this," the minister said.
As is known, the Czech Republic was the initiator of ammunition supplies to Ukraine. More than 18 countries have joined the initiative. It was planned to deliver 500,000 rounds of ammunition to Ukraine by the end of 2024.
