Umerov: North Korean forces actively support strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, as part of the Ukrainian delegation in Seoul, held meetings with South Korean President Yun Sok-yul, Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun and National Security Advisor Chang Ho-jin, the press service of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said.
"He reported on the facts of the participation of a 12,000-strong contingent of North Korean troops in the Russian army. The DPRK troops not only provide equipment and people, but also actively support strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure," Umerov said following the meeting.
He said such actions pose a serious threat to South Korea, since North Korean troops are gaining experience in conducting combat operations, which could create additional security challenges in the region in the future.
The parties also discussed common steps to strengthen security and stability.
"We believe that our arguments about the need to increase cooperation between Ukraine and the Republic of Korea will lead to a tangible strengthening of the security of our peoples and regions," Umerov said.
