USA plans to send Ukraine additional $725 mln in military aid
The United States plans to send Ukraine an additional $725 million in military aid, the package is expected to include counter-drone systems and ammunition, the Associated Press said.
"The U.S. is preparing to send Ukraine an additional $725 million in military assistance, including counter-drone systems and munitions for its High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, which could indicate more of the longer-range missiles are headed to the battlefield," the AP said on its website on Monday.
The new aid package was announced to the publication by two American officials on condition of anonymity. However, they did not confirm whether the new package includes ammunition for HIMARS. They also said that Ukraine insisted on receiving more longer-range missiles to hit additional targets in Russia.
The AP said the package will include more antipersonnel landmines, which Ukraine is counting on to slow Russian and North Korean forces in Russia's Kursk region.
AP recalls that President Joseph Biden has pledged to spend all military aid funds approved by Congress in 2024 for Ukraine by the end of his term on January 20, which amounted to about $7.1 billion in weapons from the Pentagon's stockpile.
Ukraine received the latest aid package from the United States on November 20, for $275 million, which included ammunition for missile systems, as well as artillery and anti-tank weapons.
