CoE Secretary General intends to appoint Special Rep for Ukrainian children
Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, intends to appoint a Special Representative for Ukrainian Children, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine reports following his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Minister of Justice Olha Stefanishyna.
"Olha Stefanishyna said that the Ministry of Justice is creating a register of deported children and noted the importance of the Council of Europe joining the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children. She stressed that the register of deported children will become a reliable source of data about every child, regardless of the length of his stay in the territory of the Russian Federation," the Ministry of Justice said.
She also informed the representatives of the Council of Europe about the recently adopted legislation defining the status of a deported child.
"That is, at any time during 10, 20 or 30 years after the war, a person will have this status. It will be in the database, even if it has been in the territory of the Russian Federation all these years. Speaking about justice and the post-war order, it is very important that we have data from the register of deported children that will confirm that this or that person has the status of forcibly deported, and not a collaborator or someone else," Stefanishyna stressed.
In turn, during the meeting, Berset drew attention to plans to appoint a Special Representative for Ukrainian children.
