Sweden, Denmark order production of 40 CV90 vehicles for Ukraine
Sweden and Denmark have announced the placement of an order for the purchase of armored personnel carriers worth more than EUR 2.1 billion, 40 vehicles from this order will go to Ukraine, Dagens Nyheter and Aftonbladet reported on Friday.
"Sweden and Denmark today placed a joint giant order for combat vehicles. The value of the deal exceeds SEK 25 billion (more than EUR 2.1 billion), and 40 vehicles will go directly to Ukraine," Aftonbladet said.
According to the publication, it is about CV90 armored personnel carriers from the manufacturer of military equipment Hägglunds, a vehicle that the Swedish Armed Forces call Stridsfordon 90.
Denmark is ordering 115 vehicles and Sweden is ordering a smaller number in addition to the contract it signed back in the spring, which calls for the delivery of only 50 vehicles. They are to replace 50 old infantry fighting vehicles transferred by Sweden to Ukraine.
Also, 40 vehicles are ordered for Ukraine and jointly paid for by Denmark and Sweden.
"This investment will provide more Swedish infantry fighting vehicles for the greater security of Europe and in particular Ukraine. The Swedish defense industry is a unique and strong asset in our national and collective defense capabilities," Swedish Defense Minister Paul Johnson said.
In late September, it became known that Denmark will invest DKK 4.2 billion (almost $630 million) in the Ukrainian defense industry. Denmark is the first country with which Ukraine started joint production of weapons.
