Georgia's electoral college elects Mikheil Kavelashvili president – media
Mikheil Kavelashvili, former member of the Georgian parliament, was elected the president of Georgia, Echo of the Caucasus said on Saturday.
"The Electoral College of Georgia elected Mikheil Kavelashvili as president... [he] received 224 votes, one ballot was spoiled," the publication said.
The Electoral College consists of 300 members of parliament, members of the Supreme Councils of Adjara and Abkhazia, and representatives of local administrations.
The ruling Georgian Dream party nominated MP Kavelashvili as the only candidate for the post of head of state.
