Stefanchuk welcomes Luxembourg Parliament resolution on human rights violations during Crimea occupation
The resolution of the Luxembourg Parliament condemning Russia for human rights violations against Crimean Tatars during the illegal occupation of Crimea is an important step towards holding those responsible accountable, says Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk.
"I welcome the adoption by the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg of a resolution condemning the systematic human rights violations against Crimean Tatars during Russia’s illegal occupation of Crimea… Recognition of these crimes is an important step towards justice and holding those responsible accountable," Stefanchuk wrote on Facebook on Friday.
He noted that the document reflects the facts of historical repression, including the deportation of 1944, and modern oppression: the ban on the Mejlis, restrictions on the use of the Crimean Tatar language and culture, as well as mass arrests and searches.
"This decision underlines Luxembourg's continued support in Ukraine's struggle for freedom, sovereignty and European values," the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada emphasized.
