Netherlands allocates EUR 500 mln for Ukraine for drone project
The Netherlands is financing a large-scale project to develop drones for Ukraine, for which Amsterdam is allocating EUR 500 million.
According to the Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands, this was announced by Minister Ruben Brekelmans and State Secretary Gijs Tuinman, who were on a recent visit to Ukraine.
They, in particular, visited Dnipro after the large-scale attack by the Russian Federation on the city, as well as the headquarters on the eastern front, and talked with the army commander about the current situation on the front and the necessary support.
The ministry reported that the Netherlands is providing EUR 2 billion in accelerated support.
"It was important to announce that we are providing Ukraine with EUR 2 billion in accelerated assistance, which includes a EUR 500 million drone project. These drones will change the situation on the battlefield and literally save lives. During his recent visit to the Netherlands, Minister Umerov specifically requested this. It is very important that we can pledge this support now. This strengthens Ukraine's position on the front and at the negotiating table," said Brekelmans.
During the meeting with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, the parties discussed support from the Netherlands. The accelerated assistance package amounted to EUR 2 billion. In addition to the announced drones, accelerated support will be provided in the form of air defense systems, ammunition and naval equipment. In addition, an agreement was signed to strengthen cooperation between the industries of the two countries.
