Ukraine is determined to work with American colleagues to achieve a mutually acceptable text of the minerals agreement for signing, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said.

"I confirm that on March 28, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received a new text of the so-called agreement on mineral resources from the American side through diplomatic channels," Sybiha said at a press conference with his Lithuanian counterpart Kęstutis Budrys in Kyiv on Tuesday.

Sybiha stressed that the Ukrainian side was ready to sign the previously worked out framework agreement, and now Kyiv has received "a proposal for development, and, accordingly, a new text of the agreement."

"We have our own legislation on the processing of this type of documents. Accordingly, the necessary procedures have been carried out to begin the necessary domestic procedures. I confirm that we have already begun consultations with the American side on the text of the agreement. One round of these consultations has already taken place," the Foreign Minister said.

He also assured that the Ukrainian side is determined to conclude a document that would meet the national interests of both the United States and Ukraine.

According to the minister, Ukraine believes that the text of the agreement, which will provide for the further increased presence of large American businesses, is also a contribution to the security of infrastructure in Ukraine.

"It is always important to strengthen the presence of American businesses on the territory of Ukraine. Therefore, this process will continue, and we will work with American colleagues to achieve a mutually acceptable text for signing," he stressed.
