Yermak: Russia can follow example of Republic of Congo, Rwanda in restoring peace
Russia can follow the example of restoring peace on the principle of adopting a joint declaration between the Republic of Congo and Rwanda on the settlement of the long-standing conflict on the African continent, said head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak.
"We welcome the important result in restoring peace on the African continent, achieved thanks to US mediation. On April 25, a Declaration of Principles was signed in Washington between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, which forms the path to the settlement of the long-standing conflict in the Great Lakes region," he wrote on Telegram on Monday morning.
Yermak noted that it is important in this process that Rwanda and the Republic of Congo, as well as the United States as a mediator, lay the foundation for the future peaceful settlement precisely on the universally recognized principles of international law enshrined in the UN Charter.
In particular, mutual recognition of sovereignty, territorial integrity and state borders, a willingness to resolve disputes by peaceful means of diplomacy and negotiations, and refraining from interfering in each other's internal affairs.
"Russia can follow this example, stop the tactics of manipulation, delay and terror against the civilian population of Ukraine, and agree to a full and unconditional ceasefire as the first step towards ending the war against Ukraine," he emphasized.
According to him, the application of the principles of the UN Charter to end the war in Europe is as possible as for resolving conflicts in Africa.
