Trump believes Zelenskyy ready to give up Crimea for sake of peace

US President Donald Trump believes that his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to give up Crimea for the sake of peace, Sky News reports.

"I think so," Trump replied to a journalist's question about whether Zelenskyy was ready to give up his claims to Crimea.

The US president noted that it had been 11 or 12 years ago, saying it was a long time ago. He added that no one had written about it for 12 years and suggested going back to former US President Barack Obama to ask him.

At the same time, the American leader said that the meeting with Zelenskyy (in the Vatican) went well.

Trump said that Zelenskyy had told him he needed more weapons, but noted that he had been saying that for three years. He added that they would see what came of it.

At the same time, the US president believes that Zelenskyy has become "calmer" and more interested in reaching a peace agreement.

Earlier on Saturday, Trump met with Zelenskyy. The media published photos showing the leaders sitting on chairs opposite each other in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.

Trump arrived in Rome on Friday evening. On Saturday, he took part in the funeral ceremony of Pope Francis at the Vatican. The US president then flew from Rome to his homeland.
