If Russia puts forward unrealistic conditions for ceasefire, it will deserve additional sanctions - Zelenskyy after his talk with Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stresses the importance of imposing additional sanctions on Russia if it continues to prolong the war and put forward unrealistic peace conditions.
"If Russia does not stop the killings, if it does not release prisoners and hostages, if Putin puts forward unrealistic conditions, then this means that Russia is continuing to drag out the war and deserves that Europe, America and the whole world behave accordingly, in particular, respond with additional sanctions," Zelenskyy said during a briefing on Monday evening after a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump and Trump's conversation with Vladimir Putin.
However, according to him, at the beginning of the bilateral conversation he confirmed to Trump that Ukraine is ready for a complete and unconditional ceasefire.
"If the Russians are not ready to stop killing, there should be stronger sanctions for this. Pressure on Russia will encourage it to real peace - this is obvious to everyone in the world," the Ukrainian president wrote.
"Now is a defining time. Now the world can see whether its leaders have the capacity to ensure that the war ends and a real, lasting peace comes," Zelenskyy noted.
