Bodies of another 1,200 dead returned to Ukraine

Another 1,200 bodies, which, according to the Russian side, belong to Ukrainian citizens, including servicemen, were returned to Ukraine in accordance with the agreements reached in Istanbul on Sunday, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reports.

"In the near future, law enforcement investigators, together with expert institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, will carry out all necessary examinations and identify the repatriated bodies," the Headquarters said in a message on Telegram.

The repatriation measures were carried out as a result of the joint work of the employees of the Coordination Headquarters, the Joint Center at the SBU, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the Office of the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights, the Secretariat of the Commissioner for Persons Missing in Special Circumstances, the State Emergency Service, and other structures of the Security and Defense Sector of Ukraine.

"We would like to express our gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for their assistance. Special thanks to the Central Directorate of Civil-Military Cooperation and the Joint Center of Civil-Military Cooperation of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for transporting repatriates to designated state institutions and organizing the transfer of the deceased to law enforcement agencies and forensic medical examiners," the message says.

According to the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, a total of 4,812 bodies of the deceased have already been returned this week.
