Senator Graham says Trump supports his bill on 500% sanctions on countries buying products from Russia

The bill by US Senator Lindsey Graham provides for the introduction of import duties of 500% on countries that buy products from Russia and do not help Ukraine, in particular, China and India, the politician said.

Graham said on ABC News on Sunday that the bill would impose a 500% tariff on products coming into the United States from countries that buy goods from Russia but do not help Ukraine. He explained that India and China purchase 70% of Putin's oil and support his war machine. He added that his bill had 84 co-sponsors and would give the president the authority to impose tariffs on China, India, and other countries in order to pressure them to stop supporting Putin’s war efforts and to bring him to the negotiating table.

When asked by the host whether he had convinced US President Donald Trump of the need to pass a bill to impose tough new sanctions on Russia, the senator replied: that it had been a big breakthrough.

According to Graham, yesterday, the president told him for the first time, while playing golf with him, that it was time to introduce his bill.

Graham noted that the implementation of the bill will ultimately depend on the U.S. president, but said they are going to give President Trump a tool in his arsenal. He added that after the July recess, they plan to pass a bill that will allow the president to sign it. According to him, it will be up to the president to decide how to implement it, but their goal is to bring Putin to the negotiating table.
