Care and rehab for freed Ukrainian captives improving - Shmyhal

Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal has announced a government resolution that improves the treatment, rehabilitation, and adaptation of Ukrainian military and civilian personnel released from Russian captivity.

"We are improving the treatment, rehabilitation, and adaptation of Ukrainian military and civilian personnel released from Russian captivity. Today, the Government, at the request of the Ministry of Defense, adopted a corresponding resolution," he said on Telegram on Wednesday.

The minister noted that the resolution provides for: clearer requirements for medical examinations of former prisoners to determine their health status for the most effective treatment, a set of medical, preventive, and rehabilitation measures to return a person to a full life. The measure also expands the network of rehabilitation facilities through the reintegration centers of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Security Department, the Foreign Intelligence Service and other institutions, as well as mentions strengthening the social and administrative component of rehabilitation, in particular, people will be assisted in obtaining internal and international passports directly in the institutions where they are being treated.

In addition, amendments to orders on equating injuries received by defenders in captivity to injuries received on the battlefield are being prepared at the ministry level.

"We will provide everyone who has experienced the horrors of Russian captivity with attention and an individual approach. We value every person, we protect their life and health," Shmyhal said.
