Talk between speakers of parliaments of Ukraine and Latvia: Ending the war must be based on intl law and territorial integrity

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, and the Speaker of the Latvian Parliament, Daiga Mieriņa, share a vision for ending the war, which should be based on the principles of justice.

"I spoke on the phone with Daiga Mieriņa, Speaker of the Latvian Parliament. During the conversation, we discussed a common vision of how the war should end: it is only possible on the basis of justice, with respect for international law and the preservation of Ukraine's territorial integrity. We are unanimous in the fact that any peace agreements must take into account Ukraine's position, because this is the only way to achieve a fair and sustainable peace," Stefanchuk wrote on Facebook on Monday.

According to him, Mieriņa also stressed the importance of equality of the parties in the negotiations and the interest of European countries in direct participation in this process.

"We separately discussed the issues of strengthening sanctions against the aggressor, maintaining and expanding military and financial assistance. We discussed future meetings and coordinating our efforts to bring peace closer," Stefanchuk noted.
