US meetings strengthen transatlantic solidarity against Russia – MP Merezhko

The meetings of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with US President Donald Trump and European leaders in Washington managed to strengthen transatlantic solidarity in the fight against the Russian aggressor, Member of Parliament Oleksandr Merezhko (Servant of the People faction), chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation, has said.

"The most important results of the meetings of President Zelenskyy with Trump and European leaders are that, firstly, transatlantic solidarity was maintained and strengthened in the face of Russian aggression, and, secondly, President Trump stated that he is ready to participate in developing security guarantees for Ukraine," Merezhko told Interfax-Ukraine on Tuesday.

According to the MP, in this way Trump is moving away from isolationist tendencies and strengthening European security guarantees for Ukraine.

"It is also important that Trump did not say no to the idea of the possibility of deploying American troops on the territory of Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire, as a guarantee of security. This has already caused hysteria in the Kremlin," the MP noted.
