68-year-old resident of frontline Zaporizhia village nabbed for planting explosives for Russia
Counterintelligence agents of the State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have detained a Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) agent - a 68-year-old resident of the frontline village of Primorske in Zaporizhia, who was setting up caches with explosives for Russian intelligence and combat groups in the city.
"The extra lived near the front line, which allowed the Russians to transport improvised explosive devices (IEDs) with their own drones directly to his yard," the said on Telegram on Thursday.
According to the Ukrainian special service, the attacker then arrived at the regional center on the instructions of the FSB, where he made caches with explosives and sent their coordinates to his supervisor.
"On the way to the location, the agent also monitored the Defense Forces' bases and the direction of their movement towards the southern front," the report says.
SBU officers gradually documented the crimes of the defendant and detained him "red-handed" when he was setting up a new hiding place.
According to the investigation, the man came to the attention of the FSB through his acquaintance from temporarily occupied Tokmak, whom the SBU informed in absentia about the suspicion in February 2024. Subsequently, the agent was transferred to permanent contact with his supervisor - an FSB officer.
During searches of the detainee's apartment, a smartphone was seized, with which he communicated with a Russian special service officer.
SBU investigators informed the agent of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).
The perpetrator is in custody without the right to post bail.
Comprehensive measures were carried out by SBU officers in the Zaporizhia region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
