EU to achieve 100% of target of 2 mln ammo rounds for Ukraine by October – Kallas

The European Union has reached 80% of its target of 2 million rounds of ammunition for Ukraine, European Union High Representative Kaia Kallas said during a speech at the European Parliament plenary session on Ukraine.

She stressed that Russia's response to the intensification of international peace efforts has been even more aggression.

"Over the weekend, Russia carried out the largest air attack in this war. Putin is not interested in peace. And he will not stop the war until he is forced to. That is why the European Union and our member states have provided almost EUR 169 billion in financial support since the start of the full-scale war in 2022. This includes over EUR 63 billion in military support for Ukraine. And this year alone, member states will provide more than ever before – EUR 25 billion to date," Kallas stressed.

In addition, the European Union continues to provide weapons to Ukraine.

"At the moment, they (EU member states – IF-U) have also provided 80% of our target of 2 million ammunition. By October, we aim to provide 100%. And all this is so that Ukraine can defend itself, defend its civilian population and repel aggression," Kallas said.

Separately, she recalled the economic sanctions imposed and the reduction of the Russian energy market in Europe.

"Ukraine's courage, supported by international support, has already prevented Russia from achieving its military goals. But this is not enough. The only option we have is to increase pressure on Russia, provide more support to Ukraine and prepare for the next day," Kallas said.
