Hungary blocks 12 Ukrainian news resources

Hungary has blocked 12 Ukrainian news resources in response to Ukraine's blocking of a number of sites that spread Russian propaganda.

The head of the Hungarian Prime Minister's administration, Gulyás Gergely, announced this on Facebook.

"Ukraine, which aspired to join the European Union, blocked foreign news websites, including those from Hungary, for writing critically about sanctions against Russia, military support for Ukraine, and portraying the European Union and NATO as fragmented and ineffective… Today, Hungary, adhering to the principle of reciprocity, is introducing mirror measures against Ukrainian news portals so that they are not available on the territory of Hungary," Gulyás wrote.

He called Ukraine's blocking of propaganda resources an "unfounded attack" and stressed that Hungary, as a sovereign country, must provide a "proportionate response."

"If the European Union's fragmentation in Ukraine is a pretext for state censorship, then Ukraine should abandon its membership. Ukraine's accession would only further fragment the EU," Gulyás said.

Previously, the Security Service of Ukraine blocked 15 websites from Hungary, Romania, Moldova, and Greece that spread fake news about "terrorist activities" of Ukrainians, ridiculed support for Ukraine, criticized sanctions policy, and portrayed the EU and NATO as fragmented and ineffective.
