October 2 declared day of mourning in Odesa region
A day of mourning has been declared in Odesa on October 2 in connection with the tragic deaths of nine people, including an entire family, due to bad weather, said Oleh Kiper, head of the Regional Military Administration.
"Tomorrow, October 2, a day of mourning has been declared in Odesa region due to the tragic deaths of nine people in Odesa due to bad weather. I have signed the corresponding order. Among the dead are five members of one family, including a child. This is an indescribable pain for the entire Odesa region and our shared loss," Kiper wrote on Telegram on Wednesday.
According to him, tomorrow, on the day of mourning, the state flags of Ukraine will be lowered on government buildings, enterprises, institutions, and organizations in the region, and entertainment events will be limited.
"I express my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims," Kiper added.
As reported, Odesa received nearly two months' worth of rainfall in seven hours. The severe weather resulted in the deaths of nine people, including one child.
A total of 362 people were rescued and 227 vehicles were evacuated. Some 255 rescuers and 68 pieces of equipment were deployed. Rescue efforts continue.
