SBU confirms searches of relatives of NABU detective

The State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is conducting searches at a number of persons, including relatives of a detective of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) as part of the proceedings on illicit enrichment and legalization of property obtained by crime, the SBU press service has told Interfax-Ukraine.

"The SBU, under the procedural guidance of the Prosecutor General's Office, is conducting searches as part of one of the previously opened criminal proceedings on illicit enrichment and legalization (laundering) of property obtained by crime," the Ukrainian special service informed.

The SBU press service noted: "Investigative and operational measures are being taken at a number of persons, including relatives of a NABU official."

"All measures are being taken in strict compliance with the legislation of Ukraine," the agency assured.

Earlier, NABU reported that the SBU on Monday is conducting searches at the homes of relatives of a NABU detective who investigated high-profile cases of abuse in the energy sector and at railway enterprises, NABU reports.

"We inform you that today the SBU officers conducted searches at the homes of relatives of a detective of the National Bureau who investigated a number of high-profile cases, in particular, regarding abuse in the energy sector ("Rotterdam+") and at railway enterprises, including on suspicion of embezzlement of funds for the purchase of transformers, as well as illegal enrichment of a general and deputy head of the department," the NABU message on the Telegram channel said on Monday.

The message noted that NABU continues to fulfill its duties in accordance with the law, ensuring the inevitability of liability for corruption crimes regardless of the positions and influence of the defendants.
