Ukraine negotiates with Germany, Italy on energy support – Zelenskyy

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is negotiating with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on equipment for electricity generation, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni can also help with equipment or gas supply.

"We are expanding the recovery teams and the rapid response headquarters. I am negotiating with the Germans separately. The chancellor and I have discussed this. I have already presented all the scenarios to him. There are two companies in Germany and Italy that produce the necessary electricity generation equipment. I have shown him the quantities needed," Zelenskyy said during a conversation with journalists.

According to the president, Germany was chosen because they have substantial humanitarian funding. He asked that money be taken from this package to simply buy the equipment.

"I also spoke with Giorgia Meloni, who is ready to provide support as well. She has an alternative: gas. She asked me which is faster, this equipment or a gas supply. She said, 'Let me see what is faster for me.' She will talk to the companies. Both options suit us," the president noted.

He added that the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the Netherlands will also help with energy. Work is currently underway on all the details.
