Three Welt reporters injured in Russian drone attack - media

Three journalists from the Die Welt ezine were injured in a Russian attack drone attack on a Ukrainian military vehicle, Bild reported on Tuesday.

"Chief reporter for the German newspaper Welt, Ibrahim Naber, was reporting near the front line, accompanying a Ukrainian air defense unit attached to the 42nd Brigade. While the film crew was working in an open field, a Russian Lancet drone attacked a nearby military vehicle. As a result, one soldier was killed, another was seriously wounded, and three members of Naber's reporting team were injured," a Telegram post published on Tuesday reads.

According to the report, the film crew's cameraman received shrapnel wounds to his legs, while the group's producer and Naber received only "minor injuries": they had difficulty hearing for several days and were treated for bruises.

Naber explains how drones have changed war journalism—10-12 km from the line of contact is now a "death zone": drones "can hit you anywhere and at any time."

"I remember in February 2023, we could escort Ukrainian troops just two to two and a half kilometers from Russian positions. In the city, in broad daylight. Now that's impossible. The first kamikaze drones would have swooped in within five minutes," he added.
