Ministry of Defense updates rehabilitation system for wounded soldiers – Shmyhal

One of the key priorities of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine remains a comprehensive update of the rehabilitation system for Ukrainian defenders, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal said.

"We are developing a program for the infrastructure update of the hospital network. The need for financing the modernization of rehabilitation hospitals is about UAH 8 billion. In 2026, we plan to invest more than UAH 700 million from the state budget in the development of military hospitals. This involves completing already started projects, developing design documentation and launching new construction," Shmyhal wrote on the Telegram channel.

At the same time, he emphasized, international partners are being actively involved in such projects. Thus, for over a year, the RENOVATOR project has been implemented within the framework of NATO's comprehensive assistance package, focused on five key institutions. Thanks to it, infrastructure renovation, the purchase of modern equipment and training of medical personnel are taking place. The project has already accumulated EUR 80 million (with a need of EUR 200 million).

The minister also had a conversation with the Special Representative of Canada for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, Chrystia Freeland.

"We count on Canada's active participation in supporting projects aimed at the rehabilitation of servicemen. We call on international partners to join the "RENOVATOR" project or implement other initiatives to develop rehabilitation institutions. Together, we are forming a system that adequately supports the defenders of Ukraine," Shmyhal summed up.
