Ukrainian arrested in Germany, extradited from Switzerland over alleged sabotage for Russia – media
A Ukrainian citizen was extradited from Switzerland to Germany and taken into custody, he is suspected of preparing terrorist attacks against cargo transportation ordered by Russia, reports Tagesschau.
"Seven months after the exposure of terrorist attacks suspected to have been planned on behalf of Russia and aimed at freight transport in Germany, a man detained in Switzerland in May was extradited to Germany. According to the Federal Prosecutor's Office, the investigating judge of the Federal Court remanded the man in custody on suspicion of espionage for Russia," according to the broadcaster's website.
Preliminary information from the authorities indicates that the accused and two accomplices allegedly agreed to carry out arson and explosions on freight transport in Germany at Russia's behest.
The three Ukrainians were supposed to send parcels containing explosive or incendiary devices to recipients in Ukraine — devices that were supposed to ignite during transportation. One of the men sent two test parcels in Cologne at the end of March. These parcels contained GPS trackers, among other things. The trackers were used to scout transport routes.
"According to the results of the investigation, the order was given by Yevhen B., a Ukrainian citizen currently in Karlsruhe. The Attorney General arrested him in mid-May in the Swiss canton of Thurgau. He was under investigation there, after which he was transferred to Germany," the report says.
In recent months, experts and authorities, such as the Federal Intelligence Service and the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, have repeatedly warned of Russian sabotage and espionage.
Notably, in 2024, an air cargo package caught fire on the ground at a logistics center in Leipzig and not during flight. The package contained an incendiary device that exploded, setting fire to the cargo container.
