A letter to allies and partners asking them to provide more support for Ukraine’s air defense - through a review of their own defense stocks or additional funding - was signed by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful.

As reported by the Interfax-Ukraine agency, Pistorius said this before a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels on Thursday.

"We need more support for Ukraine. Russia’s attacks, which have nothing to do with military strategy, are just terrorism against the civilian population of Ukraine," the minister stressed.

Pistorius called for increased support for Ukraine in terms of self-defense.

"My colleague Johann Wadeful and I signed a letter yesterday - the third in a row - and on this occasion appealed to all our allies and partners with a request to provide Ukraine with more intensive support. Again, review the old stocks to find out what we can do, and if there is nothing left in the stocks that can be provided to Ukraine, then provide money," the head of the department urged.

He recalled that Germany had already issued the same appeal last year, when, within the framework of the announced initiative, it was possible to raise a billion euros for the purchase of additional air defense equipment for Ukraine.

"And this is what we are once again trying to achieve with our letter," Pistorius noted.

As reported, in April 2024, Germany proposed a new initiative aimed at expanding support for Ukraine with air defense systems. In urgent letters, Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock and Pistorius urged allies to provide Ukraine with faster support with air defense systems. Then we managed to raise a billion euros.
