Zelenskyy hears report on Russia's intentions to exploit situation around Iran
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has heard a report from the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Oleh Ivashchenko, which analyzed data on the intentions of the Russian leadership to exploit military actions in the Middle East and the Gulf region.
"In fact, this is currently Russia’s main calculation—to increase the risks of a long war in the Middle East and the Gulf region in order to maximally weaken global pressure on Russia over the war against Ukraine, escape partners’ sanctions, and gain additional resources through fluctuations in oil and gas prices. There is data regarding the Russians’ intentions to advocate for the total lifting of energy sanctions. We are determining our countermeasures and will inform our partners," the statement on the President’s Telegram channel reads.
