Govt proposes NSDC impose sanctions against Russia's transport sector for 50 years
The Cabinet of Ministers proposes to introduce a ban on direct air, land, rail and sea communications between the Russian Federation and Ukraine.
This provision is contained in Government Order No. 39-r dated January 19, 2024, by which the Cabinet of Ministers invites the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine to approve within ten days proposals to apply sanctions against the transport sector of the Russian Federation for a period of 50 years.
The ban, in particular, applies to all types of direct and transit flights, as well as the use of Ukrainian airspace by aircraft owned by legal entities-residents of the Russian Federation.
Regarding land transport, the ban applies to buses, trucks with or without trailers and semi-trailers, registered on the territory of the Russian Federation.
Regarding railway transport, the ban applies to the entry into the customs territory of Ukraine of all types of carriages, locomotives, motor rails for persons associated with the aggressor state, as well as railway rolling stock registered with the railway administration of the Russian Federation.
In addition, according to the order, ships under the flag of the Russian Federation are prohibited from sailing in the internal waters of Ukraine and entering seaports. The ban also applies to ships that entered ports in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
At the same time, the resolution also provides for the non-recognition of sailors' qualification documents, medical certificates and other documents issued by the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
The order also prohibits citizens of the Russian Federation from working on ships under the flag of Ukraine, with the exception of persons who are on the territory of Ukraine legally and have the appropriate documents.
