Belgium to give EUR 200 mln to Czech initiative to transfer 800,000 shells to Ukraine
Belgium will finance the Czech initiative for EUR 200 million to purchase 800,000 shells for Ukraine outside Europe to provide greater support to the Ukrainian army, Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Croo said.
"We can never match the sacrifice Ukraine is making every day. But we can give President Zelenskyy what he requested more ammunition to fend off the Russian aggressor. Belgium will fund the Czech initiative for EUR 200 million. More ammunition is coming in the next weeks," he said on the X social network on Wednesday.
Earlier, Head of the Czech government Petr Fiala said 15 European countries support the Czech initiative to purchase shells for Ukraine outside Europe.
At the Munich Security Conference, Czech President Pavel said the Czech Republic is looking for ammunition and weapons for early delivery to Ukraine all over the world. According to him, there is a possibility of supplying 500,000 shells of 155 mm caliber and 300,000 shells of 122 mm caliber from third countries within weeks if the necessary funding is received.
