Biden requesting $1.5 bln from Congress for 2025 fiscal year to combat Russia’s influence
The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden wants to allocate $1.5 billion to counter Russia within the framework of the country's budget for the 2025 fiscal year, according to a White House document.
As stated in the draft budget, it is based on an additional request from the administration dated October 2023, provides for $1.5 billion to counter the Russian Federation in Europe, Eurasia, and Central Asia, including more than $300 million to support purchases of American equipment.
It is noted that of this amount, the U.S. administration is requesting $482 million to help Ukraine.
In addition, Biden wants to allocate $400 million to counter China, as well as $241 million in military aid to reaffirm America's commitment to national security in the Indo-Pacific region.
In addition, another $25 million is provided for a new Fund to counter Russian malicious actors in Africa, as well as to increase the responsiveness of security forces.
The draft budget also includes investments in the amount of $50 million to increase the capital of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
The U.S. President's request will be submitted to Congress for consideration and may be amended.
