Ukraine, Moldova, Romania to jointly increase capacity of Trans-Balkan gas route

Ukraine, Moldova and Romania intend to work together to increase the capacity of the Trans-Balkan gas route as part of the vertical gas corridor, including the development of green hydrogen production projects, according to a joint statement by the Foreign Ministers of Ukraine, Moldova and Romania.

"We will work together to increase the capacity of the Trans-Balkan gas route as part of the Vertical Gas Corridor, including harmonizing gas quality parameters and developing green hydrogen production projects using renewable energy sources," the document states.

According to the statement, Moldova and Romania confirm their readiness to assist in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.

"The geographical location on the border with Ukraine allows the Republic of Moldova and Romania to play a significant role in supporting recovery, acting as a logistics hub for involved companies and organizations," the ministers said.

Furthermore, they emphasized the priority of developing regional electric connections, particularly the implementation of the second circuit of the 330-kV overhead transmission line (OTL) Bălți - Dnistrovska HPP, the 330-kV OTL Vulcănești - Arciz, the 400 kV OTL Bălți - Suceava, the 400 kV OTL Isaccea - Vulcănești - Chișinău, the 400 kV OTL Strășeni - Gutinaș, the 400 kV OTL Suceava - Chernivtsi, and the OTL Pivdennoukrainska NPP - Prymorska - Vulcănești - Isaccea.

The three countries expressed a firm intention to foster closer cooperation to strengthen the ability to counter Russian hybrid threats and enhance societal resilience, particularly against disinformation.
