More than 10,000 women currently carry out combat tasks at front line – Stefanishyna
The number of women serving in the Ukrainian defense forces is growing, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna has said, adding that more than 10,000 women carry out combat tasks at the front line today.
"Ukrainians, both women and men, are fighting against the Russian aggression as a united nation. The number of women serving in the defense forces is growing, and today, more than 10,000 women carry out combat tasks at the front line," the press service of the official quoted her as saying at NATO's Women, Peace and Security roundtable.
According to Stefanishyna, the role of women is also crucial in the country's recovery as women's leadership is critically important for the development and growth of Ukraine's economic potential.
"We have also revised the role of women in the recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine. We already have a large program which provides that women will enjoy more access and will be more actively engaged in the recovery process," she said.
